Today was dry with sunny spells, but the problem was the wind. Hurricane Gordon arrived, and as the day wore on the wind got stronger. It did make painting outside more interesting having to hang on to paper and equipment. One time I stood up and my chair disappeared from behind me as the wind blew it over and folded it up very neatly!
We wandered around the site before deciding where we would like to go. The Mill has a Heath Robinson look to it with wood everywhere, holding up the frames for taking the ore from the mine for it's initial processing.
We also visited The Dry, this is where the miners had their lockers and showered after being down the mine. It has been left exactly as it was when the last full shift came up, and the mine was closed. There are overalls, wellies, hats and even bottles of water, it is a moment in time captured by the belongings of the miners.
