Newsletter 6 - June 2007

On 16th June we will visit St Mawgan, a hidden away village in a sheltered valley near Newquay. Our previous visits have concentrated on the beautiful Japanese Garden, but for those who have already visited the garden there are many more choices within the village.

The Parish Church has some interesting features, including a Holy Well, the St Mawgan Cross brought from the airport site, and a Lantern Cross (dated 1420). Also at this time of year the Falcon Inn looks particularly good.

We have been to St Mawgan twice before, do have a look at the gallery pages, 17/6/06 and 21/10/06

July 14th 2007 we shall be visiting the Potager Garden near Constantine (click on the aerial image). This is a former nursery garden that is being rescued from it's recent overgrown state to reveal an orchard and many mature trees. Part of the garden is already landscaped and includes paved areas and a large greenhouse with mature plants.

We shall have the site to ourselves for the day, as it is only open to the public on Sundays.

Advanced notice for August. We will be visiting Charlestown harbour. This is the base for Square Sail Ships, and on the 11th August one of the ships will arrive back from a voyage around 6.30 - 8pm. As it would be a shame to miss this opportunity I would be interested to know if you would like a change in time we meet. I am suggesting that the Paint Away Day takes place from 2.30pm to 8pm. Please contact me (address and phone number below) and let me know.

The harbour should be fairly quiet as it is "change over day" for holiday visitors. Also there is a pub by the harbour for anybody who would like to get a meal.

The next session of Painting at the Well, Cubert, will be held on Wednesday 6th June. All are welcome, no need to book.

Finally, Paint Away Days has been offered an opportunity to have an exhibition of paintings at The Well Cafe, Cubert. The dates have not been decided.

It would be good to have a wide selection of paintings on view, so whether you are a beginner or experienced artist please let me know (address and phone number below). if you have paintings you would like to include in the exhibition. They will need to be framed ready for hanging, and you if would like to sell them please consider the price you would sell them for.
